What's the REAL deal with direct mount filters?

I know I'm probably becoming a P.I.T.A with all these question lol.... BUT, what is the real deal with running a direct mount filter?.... my snorkel is getting kinda janky, and I already have an Hsr45 on it anyway.... but I've heard you need to jet smaller?.... I always thought more air, more fuel...... can someone who knows fill me in on this please?

Direct mount filters will give a gain on the bottom end.
Issues:
1. Because the air is entering from all directions the air enters the carb tumbling.  Tumbling air will become a restriction at higher rpm's.
2. The reason that you have to jet smaller is because the pressure in the carb sucks fuel harder and thus the air to fuel ratio needs to be adjusted.
3. The only carb that can run a direct mount filter is the Lectron. The fuel rises behind the needle and the taper in front of venture is more aggressive to maintain velocity through the carb.
4. If you are above 5000 feet elevation, open airbox or direct mount can work. Its all about pressure control.
We all tried to use the direct mount, but found what we gained at the bottom was lost at the top.
